Political Humor

I wish I'd actually found this before the debate.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/entertainment/street/2008/09/debate_drink_away_the_boredom.html

It is every voter's responsibility to watch these debates so they can make a truly informed decision. Yet, we all know debates can be stuffy and boring, with all those navy blue suits, lapel pins and PBS anchors in the room. What better way to lively up this showdown of senators than with some boozing? This is going to take some investment (you'll have to buy lots of liquor and forsake sobriety for the rest of the evening), but no one ever said choosing a president was easy.

The topic for tonight's debate is foreign policy. With that in mind, here are the rules for Street's first presidential debate drinking game:

1. When McCain mentions "the surge," pound a Red Bull and vodka.
2. Chug a PBR every time Obama attempts to tie McCain to President Bush.
3. Waterfall when either candidate mentions Iran or Korea.
4. Drink a Car Bomb every time they bring up Iraq.
5. Swig from a bottle of peach Schnapps when Georgia is mentioned.
6. When foreign oil is brought up, steal some of your neighbor's drink with a turkey baster.
7. Every time McCain mentions his military service, salute and pour some beer on the floor.
8. Every time Obama says "change," the first person to bounce a quarter into his cup gets to command another gamer to finish her drink.
9. Take a shot of tequila when either candidate mentions "immigration" or "border security."
10. Since the debate is in Mississippi, begin and end the debate with shots of SoCo and lime.

It may be impossible to hold this debate without addressing the current state of the economy. So, if either candidate says "bailout," everyone pours their drink into a pitcher. The last one to finish dumping their drink has to guzzle.

Hee-lar-ious!

The Hammies

Like every other kid out there, mine ADORE the camera. They pretend to take pics of each other all day long. The new thing is to make silly faces. Nuts I tell you!

We took Micah on Sunday to get a haircut like daddy. The last (and only) time he got a professional haircut, he FREAKED OUT. So, for the last year, I've been doing it myself. There was one cut though that I liked and haven't been able to do again. You know, I am no fancy stylist, I just play one. By the way, playing beautician with the kids is fan-freaking-tastic. Anyway, the haircut is good enough and Micah is pleased with it.

Since our Disney trip, Elias has been obsessed in every sense of the word, with cotton candy. He wakes up asking for it, he interrupts Micah's play to ask him for it and digs in the garbage looking for it. The kid has a problem. R, being the awesome daddy he is, scored major points with them when he brought it home as a "Daddy's back" surprise. Instant love and the kind only daddy can give. :)

Today I accomplished making gfcfef chicken nuggets, (nuggies to my boys). They snarfed them down. Robert said they were better than fast food. They even were shaped like McD's and Chick Fil A nuggets. Micah has begged and begged for them. Since they're obviously on the no list of allowed foods, it was really satisfying to see him so happy to have them again.[caption id="attachment_110" align="alignright" width="225" caption="E's version of thumbs up."]E's version of thumbs up.[/caption] There were enough to freeze, but my biggest kid ate them all. At least that means they liked them!

One last thing. When E gives a "thumbs up", you have to go and touch pointing fingertips with him. Cutie pie!

A Family Portrait

I took this right before Robert left for his tree adventures. Nothing like doing it yourself. It adds character, right?

Here and there

It's been awhile. As I sit here and feel sorry for myself for single parenting, I'll play catch up.

Super Robert has galavanted off to Texas and Lousiana to do tree work. So, I do everything possible to hold the fort down and keep us all sane. That involves lots to trips out and general busyness. Oh and a few too many trips to the grocery store.

We took the kids to Ollie Koala's after cousin Hannah's birthday party 2 wks ago. They had a ball! Robert and I had to stop ourselves from playing the kids games. It sucks though when they're wasting perfectly good opportunities to score some tickets!

We went to Disney where Micah stalked Tigger, giggled at Buzz Lightyear and hid from Stitch. Elias had a grand time enjoying the sites. It really was a nice little getaway for the 3 of us. Hot, but who cares when you're in the Disney magic?

Tropical Storm Fay came through and made a nice mess of things. The kids had a ball playing in the mud and water that went to their waist. (Before anyone emails me warning of all the dangers lurking in the water, save it. I don't care.)

Attack of the bugs

Micah was bouncing around saying he found a "nice shiny beetle", inside the house. I told him beetles are nice and he could pick it up. It was not a beetle. It was a freaking roach and he'd picked it up. Yuck!

The same day, I was nuring Elias and he was giggling telling me to "stop tickle my weg". I wasn't tickling his leg. Across the top of his thigh comes crawling an earwig. Stupid bugs!

Dr Micah

Micah came downstairs to tell me that I needed to be quieter to make Daddy feel better. He's got his doctor kit thermometer in hand and goes back to the bedroom. This is what I see. Micah has given Robert his lovey, Elias' Curious George blanket and the thermometer to make him better. Micah can be SO sweet when he wants to be. It's nice to see him have empathy for others. Though I'm not sure how much he really helped R's situation. I for sure don't like to have my head smashed when I'm sick, but hey. At least they tried!

Cooties, Home Depot and Southern Goodness

The boys have been sick (again!). What's new, right? Robert came into my room on Weds night, saying, "Cola, come on. Get up. Let's go." As if I'm going to jump up and dance in the middle of the night without an explanation. After I grumbly asked him what the heck he wanted, he told me Elias had vomited. Ok, I was up and running.

Poor E was sitting there quietly, with sad eyes. I cleaned him up and took him to my bed. Can you believe he actually whimpered as I was nursing him that he wanted to sleep with Daddy?! Are you kidding me? This is the kid that screams at the thought of bedtime b/c he doesn't want to go to Daddy's bed. I guess he's warming up to it. He had a nursie and was almost asleep when I heard him start to do that pitiful whimper again. He got sick. This time I had to get Micah out of the bed and take both the kids to Robert while I cleaned everything up. Micah of course, didn't care that it was 2:30AM, he was just glad to be up for the partay! 3 year olds, gotta love 'em. We all got settled and back to sleep. Aaah. Sweet sleep.

'Lias acted just fine that following morning, up to his usual antics. He ate breakfast, nursed and was in a toddlerish mood. We met Jessica and her kiddos at A Day of Play. It wasn't until that afternoon that E puked again, along with the big D. Poor guy. I just wanted to scoop him up and make it all better. :( After another fun filled night of getting sick, we all slept. Friday morning, he actually was acting sick. Lethargic, no appetite and sleeping constantly. Surprisingly, he fell asleep standing up a few times.

I took Micah and him to the pediatrician because they'd both been coughing since early July. I won't tell you that we didn't actually get to see the dr, but the nurse prac, instead. Yes, I drive 40 mins out of the way to see the NP. Whatever. She thinks the boys have Whooping Cough. Isn't that a barrel of fun! After finding a clip online of what it sounds like, I think she's right. Thankfully, they are past the worst of it and no longer contagious. Though it will take quite sometime for them to recover and stop the coughing fits.

Saturday morning, all of us schlepped to Cracker Barrel for some southern love. Micah lined up the honey, jelly and butter packets in a nice row. Then he proceeded to kiss them all. What the heck goes through his head? Elias happily dipped every bit of food we gave him in ketchup. The couple next to us were quite entertained. I tell Robert before we get into the car that Micah needed to pee. After all, he did suck down a huge glass of orange juice. I'm putting Elias into his seat and look up to the boy at a tree. Thanks, Robert. That's exactly what I hoped you would do.

We made our way to The Depot. The refrigerator, pantry and laundry room now have locks. :) The kids are less than thrilled, but now I don't have to worry that Micah is climbing the shelves in search of gluteny foods or eating frozen cupcakes. Oh and yes, we are the parents that let our children climb everything and run up and down the aisles. Isn't that what hardware stores are for?

Of course right after we get home, he starts running a fever. By the end of the night, he was a clingy, whiney mess. Sunday, he seemed fine and I thought it was over. We made it to the park and cleaned around the house. (No thanks to Robert. Yes, I just dissed my husband for all to see. Just be glad I was nice.) Anyway, the poor guy was up puking during the night and begging for something to drink. I should have known better. I gave him some water and out it all came.

Today, R is now in bed with the barfs. Elias is still doing the stinky something died in my diaper thing, Micah is whiney and I am TIRED. The madness ensues!
