brotherly convos
Last night Elias ate something that didn't agree with him and was up twice during the night with the barfs. (Micah is totally freaked out by puking.) I'd gone to the bathroom to wash my hands and I overhear this convo.
M: 'Lias, why you get sick?
E: Cuz I did.
M: Oh, your tummy hurts?
E: Yeah.
M: Well, that's a-sgusting. Freaking a-sgusting. You don't frow up in the bed again, you hear me.
We can attribute the "You hear me" to Robert.

The stinkies
Micah has a super smelling nose and doesn't miss a scent. Yesterday, he kept saying it stinks and smells like poop. I asked Elias if there was poop in his diaper. His reply, "Is no poop in my bipah. I pooted. It smell awful."

When you gotta go
Bach in all her puppy glory, pooped in the house again. Naturally, she picked Micah's brand new Christmas story book about baby Jesus to do it on. Micah completely flipped out that she, "pooped on baby Jesus."

Hate Mail
It is official. I hate Wordpress. I've been trying to upload pics since my last post and keep getting error msgs. When I email tech support, they give me some bs, but can't fix it. If I could figure out how to move this somewhere else, I would.

The Blogger that wasn't
After some lovely hate mail, you know who you are, I am back with pics. We've been everywhere and done everything lately. Once again, we're all in snotty hell! Thank God Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmas is coming. We made our rounds, starting at Cherish's and ending at MawMaw's. There is always familial drama going on with the Twigg's and I got to catch up on the latest secrets. Scandalous! I'm pretty sure Robert's only sane relative is his cousin, Jecika. Boo on her for not staying as long as I had to! There is talk of her using her fancy hair styling skills and de-momming me. About time! The men drove the monster truck around and played football in the yard. The rest of us drank wine and chatted. Some of us too much, ahem. The bra and other woman talk was plentiful, which is probably why we ended up eating at his and hers tables.
We ended the night at The Grandparents. It's so easy that way. Micah ate too many cookies and ran around with all the cousins. There are a lot of us these days! The picture is of the grandkids. There are 5 missing in the pic. It's nice to hit up 2 different houses. My family is huge into food, so there were so many tasty desserts.
Last weekend we went to St Augustine for the lighting of the Christmas tree and city. It was magical to see all the lights come on at once. Super Robert couldn't make it, as I stripped him of his Super title temporarily. That grump stayed home while we went and hung out with the Ferguson's. To make up for his asshattedness, Robert cleaned the entire house before we got home. Oh and he threw out his raggedy couch. Double score!
Anything beyond that, I don't remember. Halloween came and went. The kids were bats. They went trick or treating with Blair at the mall, P Paw, as Micah named him. We finished the night off with trick or treating at the Ferguson's. Jessica and I wore scrubs and drank wine out of specimen cups. The kids ran around and had a blast. The Roberts didn't dress up. We sat on the driveway and passed out candy. Jess and I fished the rejects out from our kids bags and added them to the basket since we ran out pretty fast. I think Jessica actually gave a teenager some Playdoh. I mentioned the wine, right?
And now, we're just around. The kids are well, driving me insane. Micah is insistent that Santa is real and is bringing him a motorcycle for Christmas. Elias and he both run around pretending to shoot everything in sight. That's what happens when you live in the country and have a Hillbilly hubby.
We're on our way out, so I'll be back with pics and tales of dumpster diving! Oh yes, I said dumpster diving!

Prekids
Robert and I were so immature. I was reminiscing today and remembered some of the stupid things we did. I think my favorite was what we called, Video Game Driving.
We had a Honda Civic with a sun roof. While one of us were driving, the passenger would sit on the drivers lap, stick their head out the roof and do the steering while the other did the pedals. I can't remember if the driver closed their eyes or not, but either way, we couldn't see.
The best place to do, due to the dangerous curve, was on Hartley as we drove to his dad, the police officers house. Fitting isn't it? There was once I was sure we were going to do some damage from taking the turn too fast. It never stopped us though!
I do not look forward to my kids doing those kinds of things.

Pizza Guy
Of course the best stories happen when I'm not around with the camera.
Robert told me today that Elias and he fell asleep on the couch together several nights ago. This particular night, I set E down on the couch with a slice of pizza, as he is our late night snacker. Robert was dozing, so I made sure to wake him, loudly announcing that Elias was joining him. He says he promptly fell back asleep. (Can you see me rolling my eyes in shock?) When he woke, Baby was face planted on the couch, plate near his head, snoring dreamily. As R picked him up, he saw cheese and crumbs all over his sweet little face. Too bad I haven't trained my hubby well enough to know that moments like that must be captured on camera!
I think he was practicing for his future college frat days. Though, I secretly hope not.

Political Humor
I wish I'd actually found this before the debate.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/entertainment/street/2008/09/debate_drink_away_the_boredom.html
It is every voter's responsibility to watch these debates so they can make a truly informed decision. Yet, we all know debates can be stuffy and boring, with all those navy blue suits, lapel pins and PBS anchors in the room. What better way to lively up this showdown of senators than with some boozing? This is going to take some investment (you'll have to buy lots of liquor and forsake sobriety for the rest of the evening), but no one ever said choosing a president was easy.
The topic for tonight's debate is foreign policy. With that in mind, here are the rules for Street's first presidential debate drinking game:
1. When McCain mentions "the surge," pound a Red Bull and vodka.
2. Chug a PBR every time Obama attempts to tie McCain to President Bush.
3. Waterfall when either candidate mentions Iran or Korea.
4. Drink a Car Bomb every time they bring up Iraq.
5. Swig from a bottle of peach Schnapps when Georgia is mentioned.
6. When foreign oil is brought up, steal some of your neighbor's drink with a turkey baster.
7. Every time McCain mentions his military service, salute and pour some beer on the floor.
8. Every time Obama says "change," the first person to bounce a quarter into his cup gets to command another gamer to finish her drink.
9. Take a shot of tequila when either candidate mentions "immigration" or "border security."
10. Since the debate is in Mississippi, begin and end the debate with shots of SoCo and lime.
It may be impossible to hold this debate without addressing the current state of the economy. So, if either candidate says "bailout," everyone pours their drink into a pitcher. The last one to finish dumping their drink has to guzzle.
Hee-lar-ious!

The Hammies
Like every other kid out there, mine ADORE the camera. They pretend to take pics of each other all day long. The new thing is to make silly faces. Nuts I tell you!
We took Micah on Sunday to get a haircut like daddy. The last (and only) time he got a professional haircut, he FREAKED OUT. So, for the last year, I've been doing it myself. There was one cut though that I liked and haven't been able to do again.
You know, I am no fancy stylist, I just play one. By the way, playing beautician with the kids is fan-freaking-tastic. Anyway, the haircut is good enough and Micah is pleased with it.
Since our Disney trip, Elias has been obsessed in every sense of the word, with cotton candy. He wakes up asking for it, he interrupts Micah's play to ask him for it and digs in the garbage looking for it. The kid has a problem. R, being the awesome daddy he is, scored major points with them when he brought it home as a "Daddy's back" surprise.
Instant love and the kind only daddy can give. :)
Today I accomplished making gfcfef chicken nuggets, (nuggies to my boys). They snarfed them down. Robert said they were better than fast food. They even were shaped like McD's and Chick Fil A nuggets. Micah has begged and begged for them.
Since they're obviously on the no list of allowed foods, it was really satisfying to see him so happy to have them again.[caption id="attachment_110" align="alignright" width="225" caption="E's version of thumbs up."]
[/caption] There were enough to freeze, but my biggest kid ate them all. At least that means they liked them!
One last thing. When E gives a "thumbs up", you have to go and touch pointing fingertips with him. Cutie pie!

Here and there
It's been awhile. As I sit here and feel sorry for myself for single parenting, I'll play catch up.
Super Robert has galavanted off to Texas and Lousiana to do tree work. So, I do everything possible to hold the fort down and keep us all sane. That involves lots to trips out and general busyness. Oh and a few too many trips to the grocery store.
We took the kids to Ollie Koala's after cousin Hannah's birthday party 2 wks ago. They had a ball! Robert and I had to stop ourselves from playing the kids games. It sucks though when they're wasting perfectly good opportunities to score some tickets!
We went to Disney where Micah stalked Tigger, giggled at Buzz Lightyear and hid from Stitch. Elias had a grand time enjoying the sites. It really was a nice little getaway for the 3 of us. Hot, but who cares when you're in the Disney magic?
Tropical Storm Fay came through and made a nice mess of things. The kids had a ball playing in the mud and water that went to their waist. (Before anyone emails me warning of all the dangers lurking in the water, save it. I don't care.)

Attack of the bugs
Micah was bouncing around saying he found a "nice shiny beetle", inside the house. I told him beetles are nice and he could pick it up. It was not a beetle. It was a freaking roach and he'd picked it up. Yuck!
The same day, I was nuring Elias and he was giggling telling me to "stop tickle my weg". I wasn't tickling his leg. Across the top of his thigh comes crawling an earwig. Stupid bugs!

Dr Micah
Micah came downstairs to tell me that I needed to be quieter to make Daddy feel better. He's got his doctor kit thermometer in hand and goes back to the bedroom. This is what I see. Micah has given Robert his lovey, Elias' Curious George blanket and the thermometer to make him better. Micah can be SO sweet when he wants to be. It's nice to see him have empathy for others. Though I'm not sure how much he really helped R's situation. I for sure don't like to have my head smashed when I'm sick, but hey. At least they tried!
Cooties, Home Depot and Southern Goodness
The boys have been sick (again!). What's new, right? Robert came into my room on Weds night, saying, "Cola, come on. Get up. Let's go." As if I'm going to jump up and dance in the middle of the night without an explanation. After I grumbly asked him what the heck he wanted, he told me Elias had vomited. Ok, I was up and running.
Poor E was sitting there quietly, with sad eyes. I cleaned him up and took him to my bed. Can you believe he actually whimpered as I was nursing him that he wanted to sleep with Daddy?! Are you kidding me? This is the kid that screams at the thought of bedtime b/c he doesn't want to go to Daddy's bed. I guess he's warming up to it. He had a nursie and was almost asleep when I heard him start to do that pitiful whimper again. He got sick. This time I had to get Micah out of the bed and take both the kids to Robert while I cleaned everything up. Micah of course, didn't care that it was 2:30AM, he was just glad to be up for the partay! 3 year olds, gotta love 'em. We all got settled and back to sleep. Aaah. Sweet sleep.
'Lias acted just fine that following morning, up to his usual antics. He ate breakfast, nursed and was in a toddlerish mood. We met Jessica and her kiddos at A Day of Play. It wasn't until that afternoon that E puked again, along with the big D. Poor guy. I just wanted to scoop him up and make it all better. :( After another fun filled night of getting sick, we all slept. Friday morning, he actually was acting sick. Lethargic, no appetite and sleeping constantly. Surprisingly, he fell asleep standing up a few times.
I took Micah and him to the pediatrician because they'd both been coughing since early July. I won't tell you that we didn't actually get to see the dr, but the nurse prac, instead. Yes, I drive 40 mins out of the way to see the NP. Whatever. She thinks the boys have Whooping Cough. Isn't that a barrel of fun! After finding a clip online of what it sounds like, I think she's right. Thankfully, they are past the worst of it and no longer contagious. Though it will take quite sometime for them to recover and stop the coughing fits.
Saturday morning, all of us schlepped to Cracker Barrel for some southern love. Micah lined up the honey, jelly and butter packets in a nice row. Then he proceeded to kiss them all.
What the heck goes through his head? Elias happily dipped every bit of food we gave him in ketchup. The couple next to us were quite entertained. I tell Robert before we get into the car that Micah needed to pee. After all, he did suck down a huge glass of orange juice. I'm putting Elias into his seat and look up to the boy at a tree. Thanks, Robert.
That's exactly what I hoped you would do.
We made our way to The Depot.
The refrigerator, pantry and laundry room now have locks. :) The kids are less than thrilled, but now I don't have to worry that Micah is climbing the shelves in search of gluteny foods or eating frozen cupcakes. Oh and yes, we are the parents that let our children climb everything and run up and down the aisles. Isn't that what hardware stores are for?

Of course right after we get home, he starts running a fever. By the end of the night, he was a clingy, whiney mess. Sunday, he seemed fine and I thought it was over. We made it to the park and cleaned around the house. (No thanks to Robert. Yes, I just dissed my husband for all to see. Just be glad I was nice.) Anyway, the poor guy was up puking during the night and begging for something to drink. I should have known better. I gave him some water and out it all came.
Today, R is now in bed with the barfs. Elias is still doing the stinky something died in my diaper thing, Micah is whiney and I am TIRED. The madness ensues!

This is what...
sleeping like a baby looks like in our house.

I went to dinner with a friend last night, for a much needed reprieve. Robert said this is how he found the baby. Elias was diapered, dressed and put to bed, never waking. He sleeps in the craziest ways! Last week, he fell asleep standing up with his head lying on the armchair.

Oh and uh, ignore the piles. Tis life around here!

Catching up
Elias is so silly. He and Micah were playing with these Christmas stickers before bed. E insisted on having one stuck on his tummy and then pitched a fit, wanting to sleep in it. Whatever kid, go for it. He was so stinking happy when he got up the next morning. Of course, his bestest friend, Bovey is in hand.
We met our friends Pam, Alex and Caroline for some fun at the park. After Alex had made peace with the wind blowing, all was good. Micah attacked Alex's snacks. If ever there is food around, he will eat til it's gone. It drives me nuts.
[caption id="attachment_62" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="Fun with friends"]
[/caption]
I enlisted the help of my littlest elves to make some cookies. Micah and E took turns adding ingredients and mixing. I gave Elias the coconut oil to pour into the bowl and go back to measure the chocolate chips for Micah. Before I can stop him, E put both hands into the bowl and starts splashing. He thought it was water and was none to pleased at the oily mess he'd made.

Yawn
Someone please tell me why my children thought getting up at 5:30 was a good idea? Even more baffling, is why Micah is refusing to sleep. I know he has to be exhausted!

Micah's breakfast
Our new set up is Elias is bed with R and Micah still with me. In the morning when Robert leaves for work, I usually get in bed with E, to avoid having him come bouncing into my room and waking Micah. Yesterday, I didn't hear Micah come out of my room. I woke up to him, saying, "Come on, 'Lias. Get down out da bed", in his sweet little voice.
There was sticky goodness all over his mouth. He told me there was old food on the table and he ate it b/c he was hungry. There was a bowl of melted rainbow sherbet sitting on the coffee table. I was instantly furious with Robert. He is the only one that eats it and I figured he left his bowl there. After R and I talked, it turns out Micah got it himself.
What am I going to do with him? I feel like I ALWAYS have to be on watch. There is nothing he won't do. When he was a toddler, he used pots as stools, climbed onto the counter, over to the stove and got into the medicine bin. Seriously, he was no older than 16 mos when that happened. Elias would never do these types of things. I try to tell myself all of these crazy antics and mischief making means he is brilliant and a fabulous problem solver. There is no feat too big!
We're going to move all unsafe foods into the extra fridge downstairs and put a lock on the storage room door. He was a bouncing, oppositional mess after eating it. After the Skittles on Sunday and now this, I feel like I am parenting a tornado.

Van Goes Nuts!
Van, who has been overseas doing some kind of top secret military work for the last few years, sent this video out the other day. The boys thought it was hilarious, although Micah was quite concerned about Uncle Van dancing in the road. "Why Uncle Van do dat, Mom? We don't dance in the road, Mom?"

Last night Robert sat and read Micah a few books. Which, by the way, do not buy, Bad Dog Marley. It's awful, they're so mean to the dog and get mad at him for doing dog things. I'd throw it out, but Micah loves the messes Marley makes, so we just make it up as we go along. Anyway, while R and M read, Elias got into the dvds. I swear, this kid would be happy as pie to sit and take them apart all day long.
While Daddy and M read, I got E out of the movies and into the band aids. Band aids are a staple in our house. They can turn my grumpy kids into giggly people faster than lickety split. Magic things, I tell you. Good thing for me, the Dollar Store carries them cheap. I try and carry them everywhere we go. Bribery with them goes a long way. Shh, I didn't say that.

Bring in the Calvary
Micah started running a fever Tues night and hacking up a storm. Until last night, he hadn't slept in days. He was up all night long, screaming irrational and unintelligible gibberish at me multiple times a night. It sucked! One night, I woke up to him frantically screaming that he was stuck. He'd crawled over my pile of clothes, heels and art supplies on the floor and was waaay back in my closet. How or why he did it, is beyond me.
In order to keep some sanity we did some survival stuff. I went to Wallies and bought Micah some silly stuff. "Gobbles" a snorkel, some new movies, snacky food and a magnetic board for his super letters. Which, btw, he is loving, b/c now he's like his buddy Alex.
As the natural progression goes, Elias woke with a fever yesterday and a coughing mess. He refuses to sleep anywhere but my boob. The joy! The fun! The only way he'll get the much needed nap during the day is when I use my mommy voice to tell him that I'm not picking him up. This ends in him collapsing wherever he happens to be and sleeping for an hour. Glorious!
Micah's fever is gone, but he still isn't well. Elias is a mess. Looks like we're homebound for yet another week. Lucky me!
The top 3 things that make me want to cut my ears off when said are:
"I'm huuungry."
"Mooooom. I don't feel good."
"That's mine!"
To top it off, Robert worked all day Saturday and then took a guys night out. Yeah. You know.
I need a break or a Valium or a big bottle of wine. Maybe all 3.

Mothers' Day
Well, this is the 147697th time I've tried to upload pics when Wordpress starts acting up. Aargh! I'll try again in a month. I officially hate this server.

New 'dos and conk outs
I live for that kind of stuff. Days when I am silly with my
Speaking of pleasant. It doesn't get much better than this.
Add me in the middle and that's our sleeping arrangements. Now do you understand why I'm so tired? That's a king sized bed and they take up all the space, just between the two of them. I don't think I would trade it for the world. :)
So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give 'em hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

Elias' words
Elias is quite the little chatterbox. As if I need two children talking my ear off. If he isn't babbling away, he is singing some random song. He is quite a fan of Alicia Keys, and sings, "No one, no one", over and over. He does it in this high, sing songy, delicate baby voice and it is SO cute! His other favorite tunes are anything by Dan Zanes and Firecracker. He starts tapping and marching his chubby little feet as fast as he can when it comes on. To be quite honest, Dan Zanes is the one who taught him how to sing Twinkle Twinkle.
Here is a list of some of his vocab.
mommy
IS MINE! ( a sure sign of having a sibling)
daddy
NO!
nursies (in a sing songy voice, heavy on the E)
boobie (smoothie)
kiki (candy)
wu wu wee (water)
saucey (Softee, what he calls the cat)
Ah-e (Alice, the cat's name)
Uh k (ok)
Ooo
poo poo
pee pee
boot
soes (shoes)
ah!
Ame (amen)
ball
mama
uh uh
um (he likes to say that over and over, then runaway giggling)
yimbo yimbo (limbo)
beep beep
hose you (hold you)
puppy
eet eet (eat eat)
ah done (all done)
abble (apple)
woo woo (choo choo)
hotdog
ces'up (ketchup)
chips
He also does several signs. He used to scream at me constantly when he wanted something. That got old quick. Since E thinks Micah is the coolest ever, he was more than happy to do the signs once Micah told him to. They are very cute together. It was really sweet to watch M teaching E how to do them. Both of them were proud to be working together.
Both of them use the signs for water, please and eat on a daily basis. Micah has continued to sign please since he first learned it around 15 mos.

Calgon take me away
I want a sick day. Right now, I wish I had a 9-5 instead of a 24hr job. As I type, Elias is nursing and Micah is crashing cars. My fever is 104 and I still have to keep it together. My head is swimming and I ache all over.
Irrationally, I am angry at Robert for not coming home to help. Or maybe I'm pissed b/c he gets to go to dr appts, gas stations, the dentist, fill in the blank without packing cups, snacks, diapers and other crap to entertain the kids.
Being a domestic goddess can kiss my arse today.

Micah's GF/CF progression
The pen scribbles add a nice touch, no?
His eyes are definitely brighter and the bags are not as deep. He actually looks happy in the 2nd one. By the way, I didn't tell him to look miserable the first time. It has been a difficult process, but it has definitely been worth it.
Oh and because the other cutie wanted in on the fun, too.

Turn the Beat Around
Earlier this week, in the middle of yelling at Micah, I stopped my sentence. It suddenly hit me that Robert and I wanted our children. We kinda planned them and were thrilled to find out they were coming. Yet, there I was yelling my heart out at my sweet, although testy 3 year old son. Where was the respect? How had I, in such a short amount of time, come to show such harshness to one of my favorite people in the entire world? It made me really, really sad. :(
We have been an AP family pretty much from the beginning. We parent peacefully and treat our children with respect and dignity. So, I know better than to yell at my kids and I strive to not to it, but failed a lot. For some reason, I'd just kinda of spiraled out of control. How I went from kissing and nuzzling the innocent babe gifted to me, to bullying him, I've yet to figure out.
In that epiphany of a moment, I knew that I would either continue on in the way I had been or I'd get my act together and start living everyday with my children the way I intended to from the start. These little people were being treated like a cat that someone had abandoned on my doorstep in the night. Something to deal with until I found someone to take the problem away. That would stop right there and then.
This entire past week has been SO wonderful! The house is happier. (Though as I write this, Micah is screaming at me that the candy on the fridge is not mine and I need to give it to him NOW.) I have enjoyed and relished my kids and their antics. Taking the time to step back without reacting has allowed us to all reconnect.
I'm not unrealistic. I know that eventually I will lose my temper and get loud again, hopefully that is a long way off. Thank God for second chances.

New Foods
I'm not pointing fingers or anything, but somebody thoroughly enjoyed his avocado, salsa and Fritos lunch.
Hanging Out
While Super Robert worked on the boat, (again), the boys and I goofed off outside. Note his cool seat and dress socks with tennis shoes. What a dork.

Micah dug happily in his sandbox that is now like beach sand. I accidentally left the lid off during a storm. I think he would play in there with his construction trucks all day.

And Elias, funny little man. He and Micah brought their carrot muffins to the table outside. I look over and true to his caveman style, he is face planting into the muffin instead of picking it up.

He'd climb into the chair take a bite, get down go to the other chair, climb up and take a bite. Repeat until it was gone. What goes on in that little brain?

Happy Birthday Micah
3 years old. It is still hard to believe my baby is 3. We celebrated on Saturday at one of our favorite parks. Micah loved his car cake and playing with his little cousins. Hands down, his favorite gift though was the Power Wheels Jeep P-Pa and Grandma got for him. He crashed into trees, ran over my leg and screamed if anyone went near it. All in all, he had a good time. We finished the day with a trip to Wal Mart and grilling steaks with Daddy Robert. Oh, by the way, Micah calls Robert, Robert or Daddy Robert. He really is one cool kid.
These are pics from birth to 3. I know it's cliche, but the time really does fly.
Micah and Elias both enjoyed helping make the cake, which just involved them licking the spoon and bowl. Surprisingly enough, gluten/casein free cake can be GOOD! So good in face that my tummy hurts from eating too much the last few days. The boys think so, too.
A St Patty's Day birthday is a pretty sweet deal. Everyone celebrates with you!
